Recipe for Bars

Sorry no pictures to post YET. I have one more card class this week, and I will post pictures of our projects after Wed. morning.

I did get a lot of requests for the bars I served during class. There is a little background to these bars!! When I was in HIGH SCHOOL (don't make me figure out how many years ago that was!!) I used to work in a grocery store. The bakery there made these AWESOME bars. I remember asking the manager there if I could get the recipe to the bars (so MY MOM could make them for us. LOL) We got the recipe and it is still a hit in our family!! Here it is! Oh great, I just thought of this, I hope I don't get in trouble for publishing this recipe!! Maybe there is like a 25-year rule, kind of like the 5-second rule if you drop something on the ground???

I know, I'll make up a different name for them. Now I will be able to sleep at night.

The new name for this recipe is: Lorri's Yummy Gooey Bars!

1 C. sugar
1/4 t. salt
1 C. light Karo syrup
1 1/2 C. peanut butter

Melt these on the stove (don't let it boil, though)

Add:
3 1/2 C. corn flakes
1 C. peanuts
1/4 t. vanilla

Stir together, press in a jelly roll pan. Frost with 1 bag of Nestle's toll house morsels and one bag of Nestle's butterscotch chips that have been melted together on low. Cool in refrigerator until frosting is set.

Gift Certificate

Here's a little gift certificate card I made for a bridal shower. I found the pattern on Nancy Morgan's blog, which can be found HERE. For some reason I can't link her exact location of this tutorial, but it you look at 4/22/09 that is where it is found.

I LOVE her pattern for this because it is fast and simple to make! :) The sky's the limit with this pattern.

PROUD MAMA!

This isn't a stamp-related post, but I am ONE PROUD MAMA who wants to share a video clip that was aired this morning on FOX SPORTS. Our son, Brook, is an Air Force piloe. He is currently deployed in the desert. He had the PRIVILEGE of transporting some of the football newscasters around. They made a trip over there to show their support of the troops for Veterans Day.. Here is a clip of the 3+ hour trip that Brook piloted with the men from FOX SPORTS. There are a few shots of Brook, but the best one is when he is in the right seat of the C-17. He is the pilot who is looking back over his shoulder and has sunglasses on. I KNOW it's my son because of the chicken pox scar on his cheek!!!! :)

It only takes a couple of minutes to watch this....thank you for taking the time. And BROOK I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!

Teacher Gifts

This is what Brady's teachers are getting for the Halloween party tomorrow. I have made some of these in the past, but just got my new Goo punch this year, so I added that to the top of the test tubes.

Treats for Kindergarteners

Here are the treats Brady will be bringing to school for his classmates tomorrow for their Harvest Party. I just ripped muslin fabric that was tea-dyed and wrapped it around the candy bar. Add two googlie eyes and call it a Mummy!

Kindergarten Kraft

I am in charge of the craft for Brady's Kindergarten "HARVEST" party next week. I have all these cute Halloweenish ideas, but because it is a HARVEST party it can't be jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, witches, etc. It definitely had to be FALLISH.

ANYWHOOOOO.....this is what I came up with. Actually I found this idea on the internet. I just googled "crafts for 5-year olds" and this came up. LOL There is a full toilet paper roll inside the 22" square piece of fabric. You just stuff the ends of the fabric into the hole in the center of the toilet paper roll. Take a corrugated piece of paper (3"x3" rolled and glued), with a felt leaf tied around it with a pipe cleaner, and stick it in the toilet paper roll hole!

Once everything was cut out and ready to go, it took literally less than 5 mn. to make! I hope the kids (and moms!) like this! This is a great fast and easy "kid" friendly project.

More Halloween Projects

Here are some more Halloween projects I forgot to post!

This one is one of the "infamous" treat boxes. I LOVE making these!

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Pumpkin Patch, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Basic Black, Retired SU DP (Orange)
Ink: Basic Black, Craft White
Accessories: Black Gingham 1/4" Ribbon, Transparancy Sheet

Box dimension: 3 1/4" x 4", scored at 5/8" on all sides
Transparancy dimension: 6" x 2 7/8", scored at 1 1/4", 2", 4", 4 3/4"
Nugget wrapper dimension: 1" x 3"

I made a bunch of these candy bar sliders last year with a full sized Hershey candy bar. This year I made "mini" ones.

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Itty Bitty Backgrounds
Paper: Naturals Ivory, Basic Black
Ink: Creamy Caramel
Accessories: Daubers (for ripped edges), Booglie Eyes, 1/4" Grosgrain Brown Ribbon, 1/4" Hole Punch
The dimensions of the candy bar sleeve is 4" x 4". It is scored at 1 5/8 and 3 1/4". Tape the small flap to the other side so it closes. Then I tore a bunch of strips of paper and actually hot glued the ends to the front side of the candy bar slider. (I used tape last year but it lifted. Hot glue works fast and INSTANTLY bonds.)

We always start our meeting with a make and take. Barbara taught us all how to make a tissue holder. There is a wonderful tutorial for this on Barbara's blog HERE. THANKS Barbara!

The bulk of our meeting was instruction (by Pam) on My Digital Studio! Pam really is an expert in this area, and we are so thankful for the time she invested learning this program so she could teach us!

3-Mn Demo for weSTAMP

In case you don't know this about me, I LOVE CANDY CORN ANYTHING! So when I stumbled across a blog that showed how to make candy corn out out of punches, I couldn't help but show our weSTAMPERS how to make these! I first saw these on Hannah's blog, which can be found HERE. Hannah's tutorial shows how to make the larger candy corn. I then tweaked it to make smaller candy corn and have provided the diagram below, and the sizes of punches.

To make the smaller candy corns:
First punch out an orange circle with the 1 3/8" circle punch. Then center your 1 3/4" circle ontop of the circle you just punches out. This will leave you with a "ring" of orange paper. Glue it to white cardstock (See picture 1.) The reason you don't just use a 1 3/4" orange circle in this step is because it will become too thick to punch through at the very end if you keep layering full cardstock pieces ontop of each other. By cutting the ring, it eilimates another layer.

Next, punch out a 1 3/8" circle out of yellow (I chose Summer Sun) and glue it to the inside of the orange ring. (See Picture 2.)

Last, punch out the center of this with your large star punch. Then nip the points of the stars to form the candy corn! (See Picture 3.)

Pumpkin Patch 3x3 Card

Thanks Joann!! I sure had fun with this!!

September Girl's Day/Night Out

This time I'll start my post off by what I served for FOOD for my Girl's Day/Night Out this month, then onto the projects.

The cupcakes are just chocolate cake mix with Betty Crocker chocolate frosting. Then I made the webs by downloading a spider web picture, putting that piece of paper UNDER wax paper, and then tracing the design with melted white chocolate chips. (I used a frosting dispenser.) I then put some plastic spiders ontop of the web. Then I put them in the refrigerator to harden the webs, Take them out, peel them off the wax paper and set them ontop of the cupcakes! I forgot to tell the gals the spiders were PLASTIC, but they SOON FOUND OUT!!! LOL

The template for the spider web can be found HERE.

I made these little witches hats out of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. The tutorial can be found HERE. However, I didn't mess with sticky strip and just used good ol' fashioned hot glue to assemble it. Each gal got one of these at their work station.

Here are my Girl's Day/Night Out projects for the month of September.

There are LOTS of versions of these out there on SCS! Here is Frankie!

Sketch Challenge

I've been dreaming of this card for quite some time, and thought I would try it out with a sketch. I rarely do sketches, not that I don't like them, but usually don't have enough time to do "onsie" cards. This was so fun, and it really does help to have a sketch in front of you to get you going! This sketch was done by Karen Giron, whose blog can be found HERE.
Here is the sketch that she came up with for this week:

And here is what I came up with:

Recipe:

Stamp Set: Under the Stars, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Pumpkin Patch

Paper: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Creamy Caramel, SU DP (Retired), Naturals Ivory (Pumpkin Stem)

Ink: Brown Stazon, Basic Black, Always Artichoke, Craft White

Accessories: Small Oval Punch, Scallop Edge Punch, Dimensionals

Card is 5"x5". Pumpkin on bear is made with 5 small oval punches taped together.

Birthday Treasures!

I thought I would share with you some of the handmade things I received for my birthday a couple of weeks ago! LOVE all of them, thanks everyone!

The first one isn't "handmade" but it is just too cute not to show you! Isn't this the CUTEST floral arrangement you have ever seen? This is from my friend Jennie.

These hand-made cards are BEAUTIFUL, aren't they! They are from my friends (clockwise starting with upper left) Chris, Cheryl, Chris and Cindy.

These two cards are so FUN and creative! They are from my friends Lana and Linda.

Nancy Riley (blog: iSTAMP) made these hand made goodies!! She also gave me a cookbook from her HOMETOWN! Don't you agree those hometown recipe books are the BEST? LOVE IT! What a fun gift, can't wait for you to see these in person!

Barbara (blog:
creativestampinspot) made these beautiful fall creations. They are so pretty setting out on display!!!! Great fall color choices.

This card isn't homemade but it is HILARIOUS! This is from my friend Deborah.

Hope you enjoy them. Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes!

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Pumpkin Patch
Paper: Soft Suede, Naturals Ivory, More Mustard
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Dusty Durango, Always Artichoke (More Mustard, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, and Craft White used on More Mustard cardstock for faux wood for sign)
Accessories: Dusty Durango 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, 1 1/4" Circle Punch

The pattern for the folds were found on SCS HERE. This is called a Stair Step Fold. I followed Beate's instructions, but instead of making the card 5 1/2" across, I made mine 4 1/4" across. It was my HUSBAND'S IDEA to tie the ribbon around LOOSLY so it stays together like an accordian, yet you can still see the stair step effect with this. If you want to mail it, it will squish down inside an envelope, but when it stands upright, and you view it from the side, it expands about 3/4". I will use mine as a decor piece by my computer. :)

Last but not least, was this AMAZING door prize, provided by Linda Rodenberg. Her blog can be found HERE.

It is the cutest purse made out of paper (larger than you think!!) and it was FULL of fun surprises inside. Look at the detail in this!! Way to go Linda, this is just beautiful!

August Girl's Night Out Projects

August projects coming your way!

I have been wanting to do a coffee card for quite some time now! I finally purchased "PUN FUN" and have a coffee cup stamp to use!! I saw this card on SCS the other day and LOVED how she used the wide ribbon.
Recipe:
Stamp Set: Pun Fun
Paper: Ruby Red, Chocolate Chip, Naturals Ivory, Riding Hood Red DP
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: 1 1/4" Chocolate Chip Striped Ribbon, Swirls and Scribbles Sizzlit, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Glue Dots

Fallish card using the NEW BUTTERFLY PUNCH! Life just got easier because of that punch! LOL
Recipe:
Stamp Set: Kind and Caring Thoughts, Flight of the Butterfly
Paper: Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant, Naturals Ivory, Autumn Traditions DP
Ink: More Mustard, Elegant Eggplant, Soft Suede, White Craft
Accessories: Large Scallop Die, The Big Shot, Coluzzle, Gold Brads, Mat Pack, Butterfly Punch, 1/4" Elegant Eggplant Grosgrain Ribbon

Super SIMPLE and EASY! This one literally takes MINUTES to make! I CASED this card on SCS (different colors, though, and added a ribbon.) Once again, I didn't save the designer, so if you see a similar card, please let me know so I can post it here!! I'm so sorry!
Recipe:
Stamp Set: Cheep Talk, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry
Ink: Mello Mambo
Accessories: 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" Circle Punches

I have been wanting to use the set "Under the Stars" for quite some time now! I figured I better use it because the camping season is almost over! (Unless you live in AZ! LOL)

I CASED this card HERE on SCS, but simplified it a bit.

Convention Treat!

Look at the fun treat I got from the Convention!! My upline, Barbara Welch, delivered this to me from Becky Roberts. Isn't it the CUTEST thing? That Becky thinks of EVERYTHING!!! I love absolutely LOVE it. We'll see how long these M&M's last in my crafting area..... THANKS BECKY! Check out her BLOG, it's AWESOME!

Here are some more pictures of Nancy Riley and I at Convention, courtesy of Becky Roberts. SILLY GIRL!!

August Stamp Club Projects

Here are August Stamp Club projects!

I love the "kissing technique" and it works well with this stamp set. To see the tutorial on this technique, you can find it HERE.

Have you seen the large scallop square die cut in the new catty? I love how you can make a CARD with this. Just place the folded card BELOW the top scallop, and then it won't cut all the way around, allowing the fold to remain!

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Petal Pizzaz
Paper: Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, Razzleberry Lemonade DP, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
Ink: Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango
Accessories: Soft Suede Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon, Large Scallop Square Die, Glue Dot, Dimensionals

Super simple fun ice cream card made with punches!

This is how I made the ice cream cones. Just nip off a leg of the large star punch! I ran it through the Big Shot to give it texture, too.

Recipe:Stamp Set: Tasty Sweet

Paper: Kraft, Creamy Caramel, Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip

Ink: Chocolate Chip

Accessories: BoHo Blossoms Punch, Large Star Punch, Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Folder, White Gel Pen

I was inspired by my upline Barbara Welch for this card!! Her blog can be found HERE, but I don't think her card is uploaded yet. I have seen these on Splitcoast before, but it wasn't unti I saw Barbara's in person that I wanted to give it a try. They are fun to make and the 1 1/4" square punch makes this project go super fast!

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Party Hearty
Ink: Rose Red, Bermunda Bay, Soft Suede
Paper: Bermunda Bay, Soft Suede, Whisper White, Thoroughly Modern DP

Accessories: Top Note Die Cut, Scallop Circle Punch, Bermuda Bay Polka Dot Ribbon (turned upside down)

I GUESS I WAS AT THE STAMPIN' UP CONVENTION!!!

Most of you know that the annual Stampin' Up convention happened last week. This is the first year I haven't been able to go because our youngest son, Brady, started Kindergarten right smack in the middle of convention. It was a no-brainer for me, I wouldn't give up the first day of Kindergarten for ANYTHING!

Well, Becky Roberts and I have been going back and forth over "to-go-OR not-to-go"...... teasing each other for months now! I kept whining over the fun I was going to miss. I'd see some of her incredible projects she was working on and tell her I was going to homeschool so I could go to convention!! LOL We sure had fun with it. (BTW, check out Becky's BLOG to see some of her projects!!!)

WELL LOOKY what I saw on Becky's blog tonight. (Y'all know my friend, Nancy Riley. She couldn't go to convention this year either.....) Soooooooooo Becky did the next best thing and TOOK both Nancy and I to convention with her!!!

Here we are at Momeno Mall at the convention!!!! I had so much fun I can't even remember it! LOL

What a HOOT!! Next year I will BE THERE FOR SURE!! This just goes to show you how incredibly CREATIVE Becky is!!

Another Teacher Gift

My neighbor is a substitute teacher and wanted to get her name out to the school teachers so when they need a sub they can call her. (You can find the pattern to these boxes on Nancy Morgan's website HERE.) She was going to hand out business cards, but I suggested something a little more memorable (and CHOCOLATEY) so they would remember her.

I came up with this design to look "schoolish". The back of the box has a piece of square cardstock with my friend's info on it.

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Tart and Tangy
Paper: Basick Black, Summer Sun, Real Red, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Close to Cocoa, Old Olive
Accessories: Scallop Circle/1 3/8" Circle/1 1/4" Circle Punches, Non SU Ribbon, Non SU Ruler paper, Hershey Nuggets, Paper Shred

First Day of School

What's up with school starting when there is still 1/3 of the summer left???? When I was a kid (now I sound like my MOTHER) we used to start after Labor Day!!

Anywhoooo....here is a picture of my BABY going to his first day of Kindergarten! (Yes, you did just see posts of our oldest SON getting married 2 weeks ago.....yep, do the math, we have a 21 year age span between our oldest and youngest son! And I always have to add - AND IT'S ALL THE SAME FAMILY! LOL)

Of course, I couldn't send Brady off to school without something for his teacher! I am a bit OLD FASHIONED, and it is TRADITION with all 3 of our kids to go to school with a nice big juicy apple for the teacher! Here is Brady's apple, along with a little encouragement note to his teacher and her aide.

Key Lime Pie and Cookie Dough Truffles, OH MY!

I had some requests to post the recipes of what I served at my Girl's Day/Night Out this month, so here they are!

The first one was from my childhood days! My mom's best friend made this at a picnic! I was about 9 years old and I remember asking my mom to get the recipe from her! It is a family favorite and always a hit in the summertime!

KEY LIME PIE

1 graham cracker crust
Mix:
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 T. lime juice
6 T. lemon juice
1 pkg. lemon-lime Kool Aid (the old fashioned CHEAP envelope kind)
Let this set 5 mn. Using mixer, mix in a medium tub of Cool Whip (8 oz. tub)
Put this in pie shell, and set in refrigerator. Must be kept cool.

This next recipe I found on one of my favorite bloggers, Laurie. Her blog is "Stamping Up North" and can be found HERE. If you click on her RECIPES sidebar, you will find OODLES of yummy things to make there! I still think she could write a cookbook! I already know the next recipe I am going to try!
Anywhoooo.....that is where I found this treat that I served. They are ADDICTING! She has a prettier picture on her blog of these sweets, but here is my lame picture of these in production.

Cookie Dough Truffles
1/2 C. butter
3/4 C. brown sugar
2 1/4 C. flour
1/2 can sweetened condensed milk (this is about 1/2 C + 2 T.)
1 t. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add flour, milk and vanilla.
Stir in:
1/2 C. mini chocolate chips
1/2 C. walnuts (optional! I didn't add this to mine)
Shape into 1" balls and freeze until firm.
Melt:
1 1/2 lbs. semi-sweet candy coating
Dip balls in chocolate. Store in refrigerator. One batch makes about 46 dough balls (depending on how much you sneak while preparing.)

July Girl's Day/Night Out Projects

These are the Girl's Day/Night out projects we made this month. FUN FUN group of gals! Oh how I look forward to these get togethers!

I saw this burger card on Karen's blog (HERE) and have been WAITING for summer to use this! (I think she found the pattern on HEATHER'S blog. This idea is getting quite a history! I altered the burger a little bit and changed out the paper. This is a simple card showcasing the versatility of PUNCHES!

I made a cheat sheet to show what punches and how many of each you will need to make this. I also showed the placement of the burger fixings without the top bun on it. (The cheese isn't a punch, it is 3/4" x 3/4" cut square.)

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Teeny Tiny Messages
Paper: Naturals Ivory, Riding Hood Red DP, Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Green Galore, More Mustard, Riding Hood Red
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: PUNCHES! Wide Oval, Large Oval, BoHo Punch, 3/4" Circle, Chocolate Chip Ribbon, Lace Edge Punch

Nancy Riley showed us the "medallion" technique at our last weSTAMP meeting. HERE is the card we made. This really is fun and easy! I was also inspired by Wendy Janson's card, that used these two colors together. Take a peek at a beautiful card she did using these colors! Click HERE.

Recipe:
Stamp Set: Priceless
Paper: Sahara Sand, So Saffron, SAB Designer Paper, Whisper White
Ink: So Saffron
Accessories: So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon, Stickles (on butterfly), Scallop Edge Punch

I was inspired by Jodi Collin's card on SCS HERE. I loved how she made the porthole looking out to the ocean at the whale.

Recipe:

Stamp Set: Pun Fun

Paper: Night of Navy, Real Red, More Mustard, Basic Gray, Whisper White, Brilliant Blue

Ink: Basic Gray, Basic Black, Bashful Blue, Brown Journaling Pen, (More Mustard, Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, Craft White used in faux wood)

Accessories: Paper Piercer, Silver Brads, Acetate, Dimensionals (to "POP" the Porthole!), Coluzzle, 1" Circle Punch (Waves), Cuttlebug Dry Embossing Folder, Rope

Recipe:

Stamp Set: The More The Merrier (Level 3 Hostess Set)

Paper: Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Whisper White

Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry

Accessories: Scallop Edge/1" Circle/1 1/4" Circle Punches, Pumpkin Pie Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Texturz Plate #1 for Big Shot
