Men's Billfold

Here is the card I did for our monthly weSTAMP swap. If you're like me, I struggle each year trying to find a unique and fun Father's Day gift. I came up with this idea for a men's billfold card. As you can see in the picture, you really can fill the inside with gift cards (think Home Depot, movie theater, favorite restaurant, and maybe even a gift card sized note that fits on one of the pockets!!) You can stick some real money inside, too. This card simulates a REAL billfold! This, of course, could be done for a birthday, too. Just swap out the stamp on the front.



Recipe:

Stamp Set: All Holidays
Paper: Chocolate Chip
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Distressing tool from the Cutter Kit from Stampin' Up, Paper Piercer, Corner Rounder, Dauber, Scor-Pal



Instructions:


Dimensions of wallet

Piece 1 Outside of wallet 9" x 3 1/2" - round all 4 corners
Piece 2 Inside piece of wallet 8 1/2" x 3 1/4"


Cut 2 of each of the following dimensions, one for each side of the wallet

Piece 3 Layer of wallet to hold gift cards (middle piece) 4 1/4" x 1"
Piece 4 Layer of wallet (front and top piece) 4 1/4" x 2"


After each part above is cut out, sponge all the edges in choclate chip with a dauber.

Score Piece 1 at 4 7/16" and 4 9/16". I know that sounds like a DETAILED number. Because the wallet gets thick after you put the gift cards in, you have to make scores so the wallet CAN be thicker. How I came up with these ANAL numbers LOL is this: Basically what I did was find the half-way mark (4 1/2"). Then score 1/16" before and after the half way mark. That will give you a 1/8" binding that will allow the wallet to be thicker. I hope you understand what I mean by this.

Then pierce the edges of Piece 1 with the paper piercer and guide. Then "faux stitch" by making a line with a black pen across each hole. I faux stitched on both sides of this part of the wallet.

Make the patch with whatever stamp you want. Faux stitch again, and then distress it with the distressing tool in the cutter kit. (LOVE THAT TOOL, I just got it and don't know how I got along without it this long!) Tape this to the front.


The inside layer has 3 parts to it. The first layer is Piece 2 above. Score this piece at 4 1/4". Set this on your table. Then layer Piece 3 (dimensions listed above). Tape JUST THE VERY OUTSIDE EDGES with sticky strip. If you use wider tape, the gift card won't fit inside!!

Then layer Piece 4 ontop of that, this time putting sticky strip on the 2 outside edges and bottom edge.


Next tape this whole piece to the inside of the wallet. USE THE STICKY STRIP again, on the outside edges and bottom edge. This will create the pocket and allow you to put money inside.


The last thing I did was to ink the wallet all over. This time I didn't use daubers, but literally brushed the edges with the chocolate chip ink pad. Hit all the side and the front and back. This gives it kind of a leathery look.
